Independent Auditing of Kitchen Extract Systems
Risk of fire will be significantly increased when sections of the extract systems receive poor quality cleaning, or when sections of the system are being missed completely during the cleaning process. Inadequate management of the grease build-up within your kitchen extraction systems can be a large factor in the spread of a fire.
A number of guidance’s and best practice documents are available to assist you in the effective management of your kitchens, such as BESA TR19 Grease (July 2019) specification, RISC Authority RC16B (Recommendations for fire safety in Commercial Kitchens), RC68 (Recommendations for fire safety in catering establishments) and RC44 (Recommendations for fire risk assessment of catering ventilation).
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 also places a duty of care on the building owner/occupier to take such general fire precautions as will ensure, so far as reasonably practical the safety of the building and safety of the people within it. Section 17 of this Order deals with maintenance of systems to control the fire risk and that they are subject to a suitable system of maintenance and are maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair.
